Twitter, as a community, has a tendency to lose his mind about anything – but this time, the reason is really blowing. In short Twitter exchanges, Elon Musk showed that more than 80% of the world’s population had a smartphone. Are these numbers really high, and more importantly, does anyone expect this to happen?
Quick Elon Tweet, but still causes a little crisis in the reply. Musk’s comments were posted in return for Lex Fridman, whose initial tweet commemorated the fact that 15 years had passed since the opening of the first iPhone. We have come a long way since then-Fridman stated that there are now at least 6.3 billion smartphone users on the planet.
Not surprisingly, the response to Musk’s tweet is instant, and mostly, filled with memes. The fact that Tesla’s owner was interested in smartphones in the first place to spur rumors about the possibility of launching smartphones in the future. However, Musk has denied such claims in the past, claiming on Twitter that “smartwatches and telephones are technology yesterday, neurininks are the future.”
Is Elon Musk right in his statement, and the following years will truly present a decline in the dominance of the world’s extraordinary smartphone? Let’s look at the numbers closer and see if Twitter is true to experience a crisis.
The number of Lex Fridman and Elon Musk check out: According to Statista, there are around 6,378 billion smartphone users in 2021. The last few years have seen massive growth in the smartphone industry, and the number of smartphones almost doubled since 2016. Returns 2016, only 3.668 billion people who have a smartphone, and when the world population is around 7.424 billion at that time, this adds a little more than 52%.
The world’s projected population in 2021 was around 7.87 billion (through statistical time), so Elon Musk was not wrong: more than 80% of the population had a smartphone. It is impossible to deny that smartphones open the door to the digital revolution. Although computers and various other technological innovations have been around for years, smartphones offer unprecedented accessibility. While many families may never have a PC or laptop, they may still have a smartphone.
Smartphones provide access to the internet, let users stay in touch with their families, and can be used for work and entertainment. This is not all tiktok and other social media applications – for many people, smartphones are very important. Although not much of other technological works can boast this type of smartphone command, there is still a place on earth where these numbers can grow. Statista predicts that these numbers can grow several hundred million in the next few years.
Does that mean that Elon Musk misreads that the smartphone has one foot out the door and neurerik is the future? Not necessarily, but both of them don’t have to be mutually exclusive. While neuralk has unlimited potential, smartphones and cellphones that will likely continue to dominate the market for the coming years.
